Terms of Service

What Okalo is

Okalo is a technology platform that lets independent businesses and professionals publish their services, hours and prices so customers, directly or through AI assistants, can book appointments and request quotes. Okalo does not provide the services, does not employ the professionals, and is not a party to the agreement between a professional and a customer.

Service quality and responsibility

Okalo does not control or guarantee the quality, safety, legality or timeliness of any service. Each professional is solely responsible for their work, licenses, insurance and conduct. Verification badges mean Okalo reviewed certain documents on a given date; they are not a guarantee or an endorsement.

Business verification

Before publishing, each business tells us who it legally is: its type (LLC, corporation, partnership, nonprofit or independent professional), legal name, where it is registered and its registration number. Okalo checks it against public records, usually within 5 business days. Independent professionals also verify their identity (photo ID and selfie, through Stripe) before appearing, and the name on the ID must match. The business may appear meanwhile; if we can't verify it or the information is false, Okalo may hide it until it is corrected, or close the account. This check is not a guarantee of the professional's work.

Licensed services

Some categories usually require a professional license: electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, roofing, construction, and home care and nursing. Businesses in these categories must send a current license (or show that none is required where they work) before publishing, and Okalo reviews it, usually within 5 business days. Trades may appear while the review is pending; home care and nursing appear only after approval. A business is hidden if its license is rejected or expires. The review confirms that a document was provided and looked valid on that date; it is not a guarantee, and each professional remains responsible for holding and complying with every license their services require. Okalo does not employ, place, supervise or assign caregivers or nurses; customers deal directly with the business.

Prices and what they include

Each professional sets its own prices and describes what each price includes. When a service lists what's included, the customer agrees to it before booking. If the job turns out to need more (for example more rooms, doors or photos than the price covers), the professional may propose a new price before the appointment, with a reason. Nothing changes unless the customer accepts. If the customer declines, the appointment is cancelled and the customer owes nothing for it through Okalo. Any other price changes are agreed directly between the customer and the professional.

Customer safety

Customers are never required to let anyone in. Before opening the door, compare the person with the photo in your confirmation. If someone else arrives or you feel unsafe, don't open the door and call 911 or your local emergency number. You can report any safety problem from your confirmation.

Reviews, reports and account suspension

Only customers with a completed appointment can leave reviews. Okalo may hide, suspend or remove a professional's account at any time at its discretion, including for safety reports, low ratings (with 10 or more reviews, an average below 2.0 suspends the account automatically), false information, photos that don't show the person providing the service, or breach of these terms.

Subscriptions, payments and refunds

Professionals pay a monthly or yearly subscription after a free trial: 30 days for businesses that sign up by January 31, 2027 (launch offer) and 14 days after that date. Customers use Okalo free of charge. You can subscribe during the trial: your card is charged when the trial ends, not before. When the trial or a plan ends without an active subscription, the business stops appearing and the dashboard tools pause until you choose a plan; meanwhile you can see and cancel appointments already booked, ask us for a copy of your data and close your account. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel anytime from the billing page and keep access until the end of the paid period. Payments are non-refundable, including partial periods and yearly plans, except where required by law. Suspension for breaching these terms does not entitle you to a refund.

Fees on online payments and extra phone minutes

When a business takes payments from its customers online through Okalo, Stripe deducts its card fee and Okalo deducts a fee of 0.5% of each payment, both from the payment. Customers pay the business's listed price. Okalo takes no fee on tips. If a payment is refunded, Okalo returns its fee; Stripe's own fee may not be returned. On the Pro plan, extra AI phone minutes can be bought in packs of 100 minutes for US$15, used only after the plan's monthly minutes; they don't expire while the business stays on Pro and are non-refundable except where required by law.

One free trial and one account per business

Each business and each person gets one free trial. If a new account belongs to a business or a person that already had one (for example the same phone number, website, email or verified identity), it starts without a free trial and must choose a plan to stay visible. Each business is listed only once: a phone number or website already used by a business in another account can't be published again. If you think this is a mistake, or the business is yours, contact us and we'll review it.

Founding members

The first 30 businesses to sign up for Okalo reserve a founding member spot (one per owner; Okalo's own test accounts don't count). If they pay for the Starter subscription when the free trial ends, they get the Pro features for 3 months from that first payment, at the Starter price. After that they stay on Starter at the same price unless they choose to move to Pro; Pro features pause and nothing is deleted. We email you a week before it ends. The benefit applies only while the subscription is paid up; it has no cash value and can't be transferred. If you don't pay for a plan when the trial ends, or you choose Pro, the spot goes to another business. We may stop offering new spots at any time; spots already confirmed are honored.

Plan changes

Before any plan change we show you the exact amount and the card, and you must confirm it. If you move from Starter to Pro, Pro starts right away and we charge the prorated difference for the days left in the current period at that moment; after that you pay the Pro price at each renewal. If you move from Pro to Starter, the change takes effect at the end of the period you already paid for and you keep Pro until then; there is no refund or credit for the difference.

Prices

Subscription prices are the same in every country and are in US dollars. If your card uses another currency, the charge is converted to your currency when it's made, and your bank may add its own fee.

Payments from customers to businesses

Some businesses take payment online through Stripe: a deposit, the full price, a saved card for a no-show fee, tips, gift cards, packages or memberships. The business is the seller and charges through its own Stripe account; Okalo doesn't receive or hold that money or your card details, and charges the business a platform fee (never on tips). Before you book you see what you pay and until when you can cancel for free. If you cancel within that window, or the business cancels, what you paid is refunded. A no-show fee is charged only if the business marks the visit as a no-show. A booking that needs payment is held for 60 minutes and released if it isn't paid. Gift cards don't expire, can only be used at the business that sold them, and aren't redeemable for cash except where the law requires. Memberships renew monthly until you cancel them under "My appointments". Disputes about a charge go to the business first.

Acceptable use

You may not publish false information, use someone else's photo, send spam, or break any law.

Limitation of liability

The service is provided "as is". To the maximum extent permitted by law, Okalo is not liable for harm caused by professionals or customers, and its total liability is limited to the fees the professional paid Okalo in the twelve months before the claim.

How search results are ordered

Our search results only include businesses that match the request. Among them, professionals who switched on "Available now" come first; then businesses with more verified documents; then businesses on the (paid) Pro plan; then the most recently updated profiles. When you search near your location, results after "Available now" are ordered by distance. AI assistants searching Okalo get the same order. Ratings and reviews are never sold.

Third-party trademarks

Okalo is an independent company. Names of assistants, search engines and other brands mentioned belong to their owners; mentioning them does not imply affiliation, sponsorship or endorsement.
